Servicing Confusion W211

I recently purchased a W211 280CDI from Mercedes Direct. I'm really happy with the car, but confused about service intervals/schedule.

When purchased the car was exactly 12 months old give or take a day ot two with circa 9k miles on the clock - was told that it wouldn't require a sevice for around 7k miles. However, a couple of weeks into ownership the days to service counter kicked in. Mercedes direct have serviced the car free of charge so fair play, but I'm confused as to when the next service will be due - also the next service is showing as a C is this right for a 2nd service?

Is this the 09 car?

It should be on fixed interval servicing - 12mths or 15,500 miles, whichever comes first.

The letters don't particularly seem to mean anything - they're just a rough guide as to how long the service should take.

That's what I thought too^^ BUT

I spoke to Mercedes today and asked them about my 211 as I serviced the car on the 18th of september 09 and i've done less than 5K so i've asked do I service it on the 18th of september 10 even though it's saying over 8K till next service?? and they said no only when the car asks you for a service, that was Guildford MB..

Sounds like they've assumed it will go to 15500 and instead it's reached the 12 months. Assuming it hasn't changed the Approved Used scheme is supposed to guarantee that you have at least 3000 miles till a service is due so that's why they wouldn't quibble.

The services on the W211 basically go A, B, C and so on up yo H where this represents the approximate number of hours work required -1, 2, 3 and so on.

Separately MB use the term 'A' and 'B' service which has nothing to do with the letter on your Assyst + - but means minor or major service. Typically these alternate.

The C service will almost certainly be a MB 'B' service. The C means it's not too bad on the overall scale of things. It will probably be a basic oil change with some filters - plus it may include a brake fluid change. The Assyst+ letter may go up as the car accumulates mileage and decides more work is due. (There are also occasional reports of the letter dropping but I've never seen that happen).

How old is your car? ISTR that the 12 month servicing came in around mid 2006.

[Edit: Also MB service departments and dealers often seem to be as confused as the owners on W211 service schedules.]
