Mercedes 320clk, 2000 model.
Hi all. Does anyone think £460.00 for a standard "b" service is a bit steeeeeep!!! this tight yorkshireman does. By the way, it's for a 320clk

Sounds about right. Try a local indie if you have one, you will probably save £100-£200.

another thing. Is replacing the spark plugs a job a resonably competant ex mechanic would expect to be able to do?

I think a B-service is around £450 (before discounts) for several models.

If you car is 3 years or older they may offer a discount scheme - alternatively just ask for a discount.

Me cheeky?? Never!!

It could be worse . . . That's what I was quoted for my E320, but it's a gearbox service too I think which is a bit specialist. A 'B' service for mine was 54K and 108K so that's the biggest bill ur gonna pay.

If the plugs are anything like mine were I couldn't find them !! When I did they were buried deep in the engine . . Needing an extra long plug socket.

I went to a specialist and saved £80...

A good point from ET4 - if you need plugs, brake fluid change, auto transmission fuel change, etc, that's very likely to be on top of what you have been quoted.

I just paid £480 to have my VW Sharan serviced ...

thanks for your repies lads (and lasses maybe :) ) just got back from the emerald isle. me thinks I will have to save a bit more

I see from your profile your car is 7 years old. I would suggest using a mercedes specialist rather than the main dealer and save a bit of money. Your not far from
IAN's establishment. www.124works.com

I recently paid £205 at a specialist in South Manchester for a B service on an E270.

I got a postcard with special offer servicing prices from my local dealer the other day - they're part of the Inchcape group: http://www.inchcaperetail.co.uk/DealerLocator/Franchise.aspx?Franchise=Mercedes-Benz
and they show a CLK320 B service as normal price £439.60, offer price £339.00. So, even if you're not withing reach of one their dealerships, methinks your dealer has some room to move.

I paid £416 for a B service.... bearing in mind that gives another years free breakdown in UK and EU - (say £100 with the AA)..that doesnt strike me as toooooo expensive, just expensive.

Can anyone give me a guide to new brake pads and discs for my car? I am trying to calculate whether to take out service plus this year or wait until the warranty is almost out.

My calculations are that in a worse case scenario I will need 1 B service, 1 set of pads front and rear, 1 set of discs front, brake fluid change and a coolant change.

Service plus for the next 12 months including VAT is £1085. Do you think all the above can be covered off within that amount? I suppose I could have the brakes etc done by an inde - but the service must be done by MB to maintain the mobilio

Thoughts??

I reckon your servicing costs based on the above would break a £1000 at a main dealer, fairly easily.

If you look at it from the perspective it's not bad value because if anything else "wears out" (remember don't say "broken" ;) ) over and above brakes, then you should be covered.

PS I don't know how much brake discs & pads are for your car, but on the ML they were £985

Doubt you'll need coolant change - I took my C270CDi in for it's first MOT today and assumed it would also need coolant change having been told at least a couple of times by the dealer that it needed doing every 3 yrs. Turns out it only needs changing at 15!yrs.

How old is you car? I took out ServicePlus as mine approached 3yrs old mainly because it would appear to give cover similar to warranty - the Service & Repair is almost a bonus. If your car's still under warranty they unlikely it would be cost effective.

David - I noticed you live in Leeds. If you haven't done so already try Merc Care. They are based in Pudsey. Please see attached link to their website http://merc-care.com/index.asp. I have been using them since I moved to the north four years ago and have no complaints. They use all Merc spare parts, their mechanics are ex-merc mechanics and the labour costs are considerably less than any dealership. Even if your warranty is still valid going to them won't invalidate it as they are approved Merc specialists. Martin also a fellow Yorkshireman (MBZ 6) also uses them for his Mercs and we both are satisfied with them.

At what mileage was this ? Mine is approaching 40,000 and I havent had to change anything yet. I was hoping that they may last another 20,000 but maybe not the pads.

When the car gets to next September I will endeavor to take out service plus for the protection it gives to things that "wear out". So I was just trying to balance things out for the next 12 months whilst it is still under warranty.

Pads changed all round at about 30,000 miles (18 months old) - warning light on.

Discs and pads all round at about 50,000 miles (42 months old) - no warning light and IMHO probably still well off needing to be done. The dealer just changed them without telling me as I had Service Plus. I would have preferred waiting until the warning light came on though - I reckon they were good for another 8-10,000 miles.

Thanks for that, Judy. I will be giving them a bell tomorrow :)
