Had the car for a year now and will be needing a service in around May 2019. Question is the car has full Mercedes history...Now I know its nice to see main dealer stamps but how much bearing does this have for future resale? I have an Indy I use who worked on my W211 E55 and was amazing and I want to use him for the W212 E63. the car has 46,000 miles on it and I'm a very relaxed user... around 2500 miles per year. I plan to keep it for at least another 3 years. is it best to get services done at Mercedes and any after work done with my Indy or use the Indy for all servicing? I would say cost is not the primary reason but the competence... and after seeing what the Indy did on my W211 and some already some small bits on the W212 I have all faith in his ability and trust him 100% and as a bonus his price is much lower than Mercedes. Thoughts/ comments please

How old is your car?

My view is that on a seven year old car, evidence of it being serviced when it should be by a competent workshop will have more bearing on future resale value than whether or not the competent workshop that performed the service work was a Main Dealer or a Mercedes specialist independent. If you're going to keep it for another three years it will be a ten year old car when you come to sell it and at that age having a full main dealer service history will likely have no influence on the price.

On a pure cost basis, three services at a main dealer will cost you in the region of £1800. So net off the equivalent cost of indie servicing over the same period and add back the cost of breakdown cover to replace Mobilo that you will lose to determine how much you save.

Difficult decision, being an AMG I think MB main dealer service history is perhaps a little more important for resale than non AMG, otherwise I always switch to specialist independent after about 6 years and not seen a devaluation as a result.
Make sure the services are recorded though in any event, a good question is how you expect to dispose of the vehicle after 3 years? Private sale then independent MB history is fine as long as buyer can see it is a specialist but if you are trading in then garage will simply use it as an excuse to reduce the trade in.

I think you’ve answered your own questions based on how you feel about the people doing the work :)

But on a cost/resale value basis I don’t think there’s as much in it nowadays - MB have become more competitive with their fixed price service plans - perhaps see how much the specialist you are using would want for all the extras that maybe required from time to time - spark plugs, ATF, brake fluid replacement, additional filters and checks etc. And of course once you’ve arranged a plan the price should be fixed for that period.

Having full MB main dealer history may not increase the value by much, but some will perceive it as a selling point at the very least.

Worth looking into if you assumed MB to be much more expensive - not always the case :thumb:

They're not alone. On the recently departed Audi, my local specialist quoted more than main dealer for front/rear brakes.

It doesn't matter to me personally - I'd rather see invoices than stamps in a book anyway.

I would concur with comparing prices from an inde with a main dealer though as indes aren't automatically cheaper every time unless you know the inde well, which it sounds like you do.

For an AMG I would only want it serviced at MB
