R230 SL 500
I will probably do about 5000 miles a year and intend to keep my 2009 R230 SL500 until I drop, so I am not particularly interested in full service history, in addition up to now (73000 miles) the service history is patchy at best. Looking at the Mercedes servicing schedule below 'What is Service A and B would I be better too,
1. Change engine oil and filter yearly
2. Check fluid levels under bonnet regularly
3. Check Tyres regulary
4. Cabin Filter replacement every two years
5. Change break fluid every two years
6. A and B service every alternate every two years.

In addition
-ABC and break fluid every two years
-Fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs every four years
-Coolant 15 years

Any other ideas/thoughts would be much appreciated

What is Service A?
With the first visit at approximately 10,000 miles or 1 years whichever comes first – and then approximately every 20,000 miles or 2 years after that - Service A includes:
  • Mercedes-Benz Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement
  • Oil filter replacement
  • All fluid level checks and corrections are dependent on factory-recommended service intervals for your vehicle’s year and model.
  • Tire inflation check and correction
  • Brake component inspection
  • Reset maintenance counter

Schedule Service

What is Service B?
With the first visit at approximately 20,000 miles or 1 year after the previous service - and then approximately every 20,000 miles or 2 years after that - Service B includes:
  • Mercedes-Benz Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement
  • Oil filter replacement
  • All fluid level checks and corrections are dependent on factory-recommended service intervals for your vehicle’s year and model.
  • Tire inflation check and correction
  • Cabin dust/combination filter replacement
  • Brake component inspection
  • Brake fluid exchange
  • Reset maintenance counter

Gearbox oil and filter change every 40k miles
I would do rear diff oil once (now) ..cheap job
Remove under plastic panels clean the front to back brake pipes and spray them with ACF
Clean under wheel arch lips a couple of times a year and maybe slop some waxoyl or Dinitrol in them
Use gummipfledge or silicone grease on all the rubber seals twice yearly
spray the door and boot locks and use the manual metal key in them yearly
keep an eye on the rear boot seal below the rear window for leaks
On my CLK I also change the convertible roof hydraulic reservoir fluid every so often , not sure if you have one ?
Aircon regas every 5 years
For £20 maybe consider a Gold Plug magnetic (engine oil )sump plug ?

What you are suggesting sounds just what your SL500 needs. If you don't cover many miles you will probably get a message in the cluster every 15-18 months or so reminding you a service is due. The older models like the R230 used ASSYST, to determine when the service is due. The more modern models now ask for a service every 12months or a certain mileage irrespective of how few miles you may have done.

Thanks W1ghty for the info.
Couple of points
-Does the removal of the plastic panel involve getting under the car?
-what do you spray the locks with?
- I have a problem with the rear boot seal leaking on the passenger sides joint and the joint seal above the passengers seat, do you know the cost of replacement?
Thanks

Yes , under car job for the panels
Locks , something like GT85 , not WD40
There is a fix for the rear seal , try YouTube or general Google search . Edit…link below

You should almost be due your second gearbox oil and filter change . Check the first one was done at 37500k ish .

Thanks for the info AMGeed👍

Thanks. I have nothing showing in service history 😞 but am going to get it done before I go to Scotland
Might be worth checking with MB for the digital service record ? Unless of course you have it all printed out .
