Mercedes cla 220
Hi
My car is overdue its first serice can i take it to a independant garage who uses all genuine merc parts will also stamp my book and update the database. Or do i take it to MB dealer who will charge double the price. And i have to wait a further 2 weeks to get booked in. Will it affect my PCP agreement... MB dealer have told me i wont have the breakdown cover anymore...is that even correct...

Check your PCP contract.

Usually they insist on a dealer only service.

How overdue is the service?

regardless, assuming the car is only a year old you should still be entitled to MB breakdown cover.

My previous car was a lease car but in all honesty I cannot recall what was said in the documentation.

I very much doubt that a dealership will charge twice that of an independant in fact quite often from posts I have seen on the forums there can be very little difference in pricing.

The first service on my previous lease car was (E300 Hybrid) was under £300.

That said it seems that many prefer independents over dealership not necessarily on pricing but on confidence and the more personalised service.

Who's fault is it that its overdue ? theirs or yours ? During my company car days when servicing was far more frequent (my Honda need an oil change every 6000 miles...every 2 months !) we had a spate of engine failures ,cam belts etc due to the fact that most of the engineers on the road were just too busy or couldn't be bothered to book their car in.

Once the cost became too high due to 'operator negligence' it became a disciplinary offence if your company car went 100 miles past its due service.

Book? its all electronic at Mercedes, your garage will not have access to the Mercedes records

depend on where you bought it from, i bought mine from a local garage and I have free servicing and warranty with them (apparently they can access the electronic service record possibly by contacting MB themselves) so I have to take it back and it won't affect the PCP.

As has been said already, you need to check the requirements of the PCP contract to determine whether or not main dealer servicing is mandated. People tend to forget that when a car is on a PCP contract it's owned by the finance company, not them, and the finance company can specify pretty much whatever they like regarding servicing.

If it's on a Mercedes Agility Contract then (unless they've changed recently) you must use a main dealer for servicing and you are allowed a maximum of 1 month and 1,000 miles after the service is due.

Most Mercedes specialists will have access to the digital service book

Some do - Merparts in Port Glasgow , being fully accredited service agents , can update Mercedes electronic service records , and numerous others will do too .
