Hello all.

Me again [sigh]...

I went and washed my S500 today - thought I'd give it a treat! And it turns out the car is that gift that keeps on taking! (who knew...).

This time, there's water ingress through the shark fin aerial on the roof.

Might anyone here have part numbers for a replacement gasket and also any guides as to how to actually replace it without ripping out all the headlining or the like?

I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in a advance.

Just ask your local MB parts department for the part.

As for fitting, possibly look on YouTube?

Might anyone have instructions on how to replace the antenna? It seems the whole shark fin is loose and the gasket is completely perished.

There's not too much on YouTube that I can find.

Might anyone have any instructions from the WIS?

Would really appreciate any help/guidence.

I'll likely get a new one if really necessary from a breakers.

Thanks.

Are you proposing getting a used one from a breaker? They won't be new.

I would imagine the original will be held in place by fixings that compress the gasket?

Order a new gasket from a dealer. If you ask they may print off the relevant page from WIS for you.LLooking at parts online there seems to be a single, central fixing which will clamp down onto the gasket, you will need to access it by dropping part of the headlining I imagine.

Yes, a used one. The main dealer says that you can't get teh gasket on its own. But I can get the full assembly for about £160!

I was wondering if any kind folks on here might share some screen grabs of teh relevant WIS pages for replacing the fin (i.e. how to remove old and reinstall new)? I'd be most greatful.

Thanks.

There are several on ebay at much less than the dealers 👍

If it helps. When I did my W209 audio upgrade the headlining came out, but I seem to recall that the shark fin was directly above the rear dome light unit. So you may be able to get at it from there. Mine was held in place by a single nut.

Thanks all. I've (carefully) applied a shed load and then some of auto-glazing silicone (the stuff Autoglass use to bond the windscreen to the frame) and it seems to have worked.
