Sheer laziness or something else?

I'm puzzled. Bought my approved used mb from Birmingham a few weeks ago. Engine light comes on within a few hundred miles. Book it in under the extended warranty with MB Shrewsbury who call me today to tell me it hasn't had the injectors replaced under the e class recall of some time ago.

What I don't understand is why would MB Bham sell me this car knowing this work was required? They all have access to the same systems? Forewarned is forearmed so any advice before I go in to bat with them would be appreciated

Dealers and manufacturers sell AU cars on the premis that the cars are somehow better because off so many checks that are performed.

My cynical view is that it doesn't work that way at all.

Car enters the AU system - it is given a cursory lookover and check. Thereafter it gets sold on to the dealers who will be interested in prepping them cosmetically for sale and then they go out to customers.

In most cases the cars will be fine. So the 'checks' that were or were not performed don't make much difference. Every so often there will be an issue and at that point it's a bit embarrassing but the AU warranty covers it and the customer gets sorted usually to their satisfaction.

So really it's not about the quality of the second hand cars being sold - it's about the comeback you have after you drive the car away.
