Shell fill up and go

Personally I've never found it a problem to walk over to the kiosk to pay for fuel, especially when having sat in the car for a few hours it's good to stretch the legs.

It's progress. Some of these ideas fade away, some survive, and some prosper. I have an app for umpteen things, which once tried are an incey wincey bit better than the old way, but that's enough to make me keep on using them.

The latest for me is paying for my parking through an app on my phone. Paying at the pay & display machine is a fairly efficient way of doing it, and has prospered for a long time, but I now pay through an app every time I can and even pay 20p for the privilege.

Uber is similar. I'll never pay cash for a taxi again in a town with Uber, but paying the drive with cash has stood the test of time until now.

I use the pay for parking app but no charge on mine for the privilege. Very handy with the countdown timer etc and single button push to add another hour or so when needed.

I use Hailo (charged to my Credit Card) and I use parking app (again, charged to my Credit Card).

I think that use of apps for Credit Card payments in substitution to cash is great, plus you keep track and have receipts in your email which helps with business expenses.

I don't use the new Shell scheme though because I am not sure that paying from the car via PayPal is better for me than going into the shop and paying by card (and stop at the loo and pick-up a soft drink etc...).

I guess some might prefer it though.

...and of course all our cars are intrinsically safe aren't they.

No argument, just reiterating the current situation regarding the law regarding mobile phone use

...Just a thought .... People still talk about petrol stations , never diesel stations :)

Why bother changing the name for the sake of what is surely no more than a fleeting episode in UK motoring history? :D

I prefer the tesco pay at pump facility, quick and simple.

BTW mythbusters busted the fuel vapour mobile phone ignition myth. Still would not try it myself.

They got lucky.
Somewhere between 100% petrol and 100% air is a mixture that is ideal for ignition due to a spark.
This is one of those gimmicks trying to get the younger, tech savvy car users on board.
If your windows are dirty (salt in winter) or covered in rain it will be harder for the phone to read its target.
If your in the drivers seat but the filler cap is on the passenger side, it will be fidgety to focus.
I'd rather use a card or cash and be sure it and I have got it right.
My phone can stay out of the way.
Just because the rule says not to use a phone on the forecourt does not mean that is what folk will do.
The rule says 30 max in a thirty limit.
So how come plenty of folk have SP30's on their licence.

If you search the web there are clips of fires starting on forecourts due to mobile phones. One involves one of their own tankers!
