Should I de-badge?

There's a link on my post to nice plain cheap numberplate holders.

18 inch wheels on an A class will kill the ( already sketchy ) handling and you will be forever damaging them on potholes as you will have to use 30/35 profile tyres.

Didn't get round to a lot this week in the end, worked overtime.
The majority of work will now have to wait til after my exams in June, or just before in "study leave" in May.

I can't afford new alloys and tyres unfortunately. But once the rust and the paintworks been done, and of course, after its (hopefully) passed its MOT, i'll look at saving for new wheels. I get the feeling once the new wheels are on, the car will look a million times better, but the rust and paintwork needs sorting out to make the wheels look really good.

I washed, well had it washed, the other day, and the paintwork looks awful, theres hundreds of scratches, scrapes, little dents, a big dent. Its gonna need a few touch up pens and a few days I reckon, that's assuming touch up pens are easy to use.....

The number plate holders I will order next pay day (Thursday). I'm still to pick up my new seats I won on Ebay, going up bank holiday Monday to pick them up. Hoping they will make the car look a bit younger inside.

Its £2,800

I asked the lady on the phone about this, because I got quotes for 1.2-1.6 Fiestas, and I also got a quote, around that sort of price for a 1.4 golf.

Her response was "Because cars like the ones you mentioned are boy racer cars. How many boy racers do you see in Mercedes A Classes? However much they can keep up, and probably out run the mentioned cars, with all due respect, an A Class isn't a 'cool car'"

The best advice I can give you, buy an A Class, in decent nick, looking around the same sort of price as the Golf, get it in black or silver or something, and let your son 'do it up' but please..... tastefully!

Thank you, A Class it is then. :thumb:

Get him on the forum!!

A fellow young Mercedes driver :D

By the way, my insurance company is LV. cheapest I found. might help you.

Deano, will you be advising your insurance of all these little "improvements"? I bet that a mainstream insurer like LV will either drop you like a stone or charge a silly(er) premium to keep you on the books once it is no longer standard. Even tinting the glass should be declared.

If the add ons are OEM , not mad Ripspeed spoilers etc , then it's debatable if you actually need to.

For what's it's worth I told mine I changed the wheels from standard 16" to the 18s even though they would have been an option if buying the car new.

My view is they will worm out of anything and let's be honest it probably also does make your car more likely to be stolen?

Given I was also adding the Brabus box I've actually ended up paying less with the mods than without with a specialist broker.

I know it's up to you but I worry about stuff like that and would rather pay the extra (if it is) and know I'm covered.
