hey,

I've been offered a kosha brand new set of amg wheels for my w208 clk. Been told I can have them for a hundred quid (this is from my business partner who's never used them)

If I take them what tyres would you suggest and should I have the car lowered? How will this affect the driving expereience?

Any advice would be appreciated

Martin

Well, I have just had mine dropped and have to say I am 50/50 on it.

I got some h&r springs and the drop is great but it feels a bit wierd. Handling has increased 10 fold and the car sounds a lot quieter in the road.

Question is, why do you want to lower it? I think the clearance on modern mercs is scandalous and the designer needs shooting for this alone. Lowring the car will give it a better look but may compromise the MB feel.

You need to take a car out which has had this done to get the feel.

Apparantly, the front anti roll bar link snapped on mine when the mechanic took it out for a spin!!!  So i am taking it very easy!

Also, the springs will take a month or two to bed in before you really begin to feel the difference. The roads are to wet for me to really give the car a good run so I am sure I will love them to bits soon enougth!

*edit*
If you do go down the road of lowering, make sure you check the car when you pick it up... unlike me and have a chip on your alloy where the t****r has dropped the wheel

sorry, I meant to say that the reason for lowering is because I thought that putting on 18's to replace the standard oems would make the car look like it was on stilts. Is this not the case?

Possibly - what type of clk is it? If its an avantgarde you maybe ok and the wheel will fll the arches.

it is an avangarde! Are the arches different to the elegance?

Not the arches, I think its the suspension? the avantgarde was the replacement for the old sport i think and should carry a lower suspension - have a look in the galleries and there are a couple of pics there of a clk avantgarde before and after 18s were fitted.

THere is a lot more to lowering a car than adding a set of springs as i am finding out!!!
