2015 C220D
Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2015 C220D from a non-MB dealer with ~45k miles.

According to the paperwork I got from the dealer, they gave the car an "Oil + Filter" service on 15.02.2020.

I have managed to get the DSR from my local main dealer, which states that the last recorded service was 28.03.2019 and the next service is due 03.2020 / 64402 miles.

The service section in-dash is telling me that Service B7 is due in 220 days, so I assume the dealer has reset the service indicator but not entered it onto the DSR.

So, if I follow the in-dash advice and leave it till next Feb there will be a 2 year gap on the DSR - not great.

Is it worth getting it serviced now, so the gap will only be 16 months?

Well, oil and filter is the most important aspect. if that's done leave it til next year.

Awesome, thanks!

I will keep hold of the headed paper which has the details of the dealer service so I can pass it on

Or the non MB dealer just reset the service counter without actually doing any work....

It's easy to say leave it, if you plan on keeping the car would likely make little difference.

On the other hand if you plan to move it on then missing service history may not be a good selling point.

My experience is that people want to see a service stamp 'every year', but they are not fussed about the months and don't look at it. So as long as the DSB will show a service 'every year', no one will notice that there's a gap of a few months on one of the years.

But even if someone did notice.... 2020 will be remembered as Coronavirus year.... many cars that had a service due in March will have a gap till later in the year - and all approved by MB.

So in short - pay for a service now, and all will be well on the DSB. How you sort out ASSIST on the dash is another matter.......

How much is a simple oil and filter change at an MB indie?
Then you know it has the correct oil, and it gets the stamp.

I would give it an oil and filter change anyway for peace of mind. It is impossible to tell with diesels as the oil turns black pretty quickly even when new.. and I don’t trust dealers

My local merc specialist charged £108 plus £11 for a pollen filter when I had an A service when I had my 2018 c250d. All genuine parts and digital book updated. I saw yesterday merc charge £33 just for the pollen filter.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I have contacted a local indy MB specialist and will get it serviced ASAP.

a. On the C-Class, the pollen filter is replaced as a matter of course during the B Service, at no extra cost (i.e. it's part of the B Service schedule). If I understand correctly, then you opted to replace the pollen filter annually instead of every other year, and this is why you had it done with an A Service (and charged for it)?

b. I have no doubt that MB prices are high, but just to say that prices for pollen filters can vary, because the cheap ones are passive filters while the original MB spec is for an Active Charcoal filter that does a better job at neutralising odours. That said, the replacement filter for £11 may have been an Active Charcoal filter, I obviously do not know.

They were genuine parts that were used. They said when they put the car details into the system, it said it needed the pollen filter so I said do it. It had its first service and then I traded it in for something a bit quicker.
My partner had his A service there last week and it was still £108.
The guy that owns the merc specialist garage actually used to work at the Mercedes branch I used to use before I found him. I searched for an indi after sitting on an old ripped leather sofa at Listers Hull, waiting for more than an hour for them to start on the car and then the lad that got in it, drove it out of the car park like he had stolen it. I had tried another Listers branch and they took 3 visits to diagnose the wheel rattle as the parking brake. I was paying over the odds and wasn't getting a good enough service from them. They deal with the car at my appointment time for the time it's booked in for. The dealer was squeezing as many as they could in and getting around to them when they could. It was a second class service for inflated prices.

As I said, in the C-Class the pollen filter is due every 2 years, and it is part of the B Service, so no idea what happened there.

Thanks all - now booked with a local indy MB specialist
