Would it be posible (assuming a video out is available on a TomTom/modern satnav) to connect an uptodated SatNav to the display on an 2001 W210 Comand?

I think it would be. You may have to have your comand coded to accept video input even if it has the green fakra connector.
The other major problem is you will effectively need video in motion and although I understand this can be done by 'star', I think you may have a hard time persuading anyone to do it for you.

I've briefly looked at this as an option for an HTC phone that has video output but havn't attempted it yet.

I'd just stick with the COMAND to be honest.

Unless you're a travelling sales rep doing tens of thousands of miles a year, for the few occasions when you need satnav, COMAND is more than adequate

Don't forget the other perks - mutes the radio when giving directions, arrows/junctions appear in the cluster, speed pulse as well as GPS makes it quite accurate etc. Certainly works well enough to find most places stress-free :)

Yet again you could fit your tom tom in the ashtray at the bottom of your console. I think an italian guy did it on youtube. Closes the lid to hide it as well, perfect fit.

Connecting it to the video-in of command would also mean you loose the touch-screen...
