Sim card for Data use on iPad in Europe (pay as you go type?)

Looking at changing my wifi only ipad for a 3G version. What do people who have them do for data when in Europe?

I don't want / need a monthly contract in the UK but for a few times a yr having 3G pay as you go would be handy.

Am I best buying a sim in the country I am in with some data bundled in?

Does anyone do similar?

Oh and does 3G offer enough speed to Skype?

I know this works with the iPhone...

Use your phone as a wifi hotspot and link your iPad accordingly (if only requiring occasional use).

Otherwise, go GiffGaff.

Used Vodaphone in Spain and Porugal- just buy a sim at the airport

I’m in the same kind of position, there is a bunch of us going on a driving trip soon through Europe. Ideally we just want one 3G SIM that we can all utilise, I know of devices that we can do this with that just act as a WIFI hotspot, the trouble is we will be crossing borders from France, Germany, Switzerland Italy and Monaco. Is there a deal that covers Europe or ir it different for each country ?
