Well as some of you know sold my CLK55 AMG to Olly and bought an Audi A5 3.0 TDI Quattro. Now what surprised me is this.

1) The market value of the new Audi is £47K a lot more than the eight year old CLK.

2) the performance of both cars are similar (0-60 @ 5.5 for the CLK; and 5.8 for the Audi and both limited to 155mph max)

Yet when changing my car details LV advised me that my insurance will be £80 cheaper for the rest of the year - and that's on a premium of £515 for the CLK.

Puzzling - maybe they think the Audi is a car older slower drivers use :dk:

any thoughts?

As soon as you put the letters AMG in to the equation, it'll always cost more to insure.

Likewise 'GTI' 'Sport' etc etc

Could be because of the complimentary rip off you received every time you said the three letters AMG to someone!?

Hey Peter, well you no longer have the AMG badge on the back, as you know it adds a premium on everything!

my 2p worth

- not as attractive to thieves as the AMG
- newer car so in event of repair parts will be easier to get hold of and maybe cheaper
- better security as its newer

maybe it's just statistics:

CLK AMG drivers make more claims than A5 Quattro drivers.

Most low lifes are probably going to nick a car with AMG on the boot than TDI...

even if they are similar performance (on paper)
