Simple image creator

Hi

I am trying to design a logo for my new business, in the past I have knocked up simple images on a PC using paint to create the image.

What is the MAC equivalent of Paint? Or can someone recommend a simple program to create the graphic file as I have designed the logo (text based) in Word 2008.

I used Corel Draw 12 to draw our logo here

Quite easy to use and experiment with.
