Hi All, As the title explains, I am starting my restoration project on R107 SL 280 1985. At present I am looking for a good mechanic in and around south West London, but happy to travel further a field. Any info regarding body shop will also be gratefully received.

Thanks

Good luck with this. In West Molesey there's an MB specialist (TM Motors) right next to a bodyshop (Vanleigh Coachworks) ... I used both in the past, and assuming they're still around would recommend them!

PS your car is properly called a 280 SL ... it wasn't till part-way through production of the later R129 that the 'SL' came first. So an SL 280 is an entirely different car!

Steve Redfearn's in Gladstone Road, SW19 and has great experience with cars of that era. He rebuilt an M110 engine for me and it was fine.

Thanks Ray! Spoke to Steve Redfearn's they are fully booked until Aug, but will be booking the car in for an inspection. Appreciate the advise!

Gents, does any one know where to buy a repair manual book for 280sl please? Found the Haynes one on the SL Shop website but that is for the 350 & 450 model.
Regards

Tried an online search? Quickest way to find one.

I have several Mercedes Benz factory manuals (the blue and gray paper ones) that I bought from a mechanic friend that retired. You're probably looking for the M110 engine manual and the W107 Chassis and body manual. You can get the CD's pretty cheap on eBay but the paper manuals are out of print and cost a pretty penny.
