I now have this big dilemma .............

My lovely SL500 is sitting alongside the SL65 - do I need two SL's ?
I spent lots of money on the SL500, suspension, struts, engine mounts, new tyres, new brakes , new audio system to replace the COMAND +++++
Just added it all up and got to £10,000 over two and a half years ! Includes servicing but .............
You can guess the car is totally sorted, and the rest
Yo may think that I must have been nuts but it is a great car
    Sell ? I'd get £16000 on a good day
    Keep and store £1500 pa

I am tempted to keep it but my head says take the £16000 and stick in the bank
My heart says keep it as you clearly love it enough to have had anything wrong fixed!

Not sure why I am asking opinions ......

    Just curious

You can guess my opinion - I'd be keeping it. SL500's that are well sorted seem hard to come by.

I would say sell IF you could get £16k for it. Big engined petrol cars are definitely a niche market regardless of how 'sorted' they are.

    Too early to decide.

Keep it for now and see how the new one settles in. Then it may become clear that they offer something different or you prefer one over the other and it's worth selling one. Simples.

Is the 1500 pa for storage costs of cost to service/maintain it?

If you could get 16k for it I’d sell tbh.

I think for me the answer is if you need to ask then you don't love it/need it as much as you think.
So sell it and bank the money.

I'd say sell tbh. It is unlikely to appreciate more than the costs to keep in the short to medium term.

Youll be lucky to get £6000 for the SL500. Vastly over rated car and as long as SL55's are around, why would anyone invest in its poor cousin?
Keep it, stick it in the back of the garage for old times sake and flirt with it now and again. Never be a classic.

Bieldside - sorry if it sounded a little harsh, but it is true. The SL500 lost its way the moment the SL55 came onto the scene. Everything about the 500 was improved or changed for the better. It will become (by definition) a classic the moment it hits its 25th birthday buit it will not be in demand, perse. Looking at current market prices and dependent on mileage - you'd be lucky to get a penny over 10 grand if you picked the right time of the year and waited long enough.
Sell it - take the wife on a holiday with the proceeds for a week!

Rockits - the problem with that time frame is that by then, fossil fuelled cars will be on their back foot, diesels will have been confined to the scrap heap and electric/hydrohen fuel cells will be more and more dominant.
For cars like ours (big gas guzzling lumps) it will be a race against time in the classic world as to who still would wish to collect them - the clasic world will, by then become very pickie and choosy and only a few gems will manage to fetch anything close to exciting prices.
We are currently witnessing the beginning of the end of all internal combustion engines.
    SL500 in 20yrs - scrap value!

    Like steam engines...

Just watch J Leno put his 427 Cobra against a granny driving a Tesla.
Won’t make any difference to me I’ll be six foot under but its coming...

Sorry, we have a big difference of opinion here & will have to agree to disagree.

Classic cars & the massive market it is will still be here for some time & is going nowhere. Are you suggesting that the value of billions & billions of pounds/dolllars of global classic fossil fuelled cars are going to evaporate to zero & be worthless?

Probably the same as any other Mercedes. Set the mirror adjustment switch to the passenger side.
