Just felt this was a great picture.

What grabbed me is the rake of the windscreen in each pic, and how the wheels become more prominent. The other thing that stands out is the re-emergence of the louvres in the wing.

One day, when I don't have kids to shift to and from Uni :bannana: but I'll be so old  I'll have to throw myself in and then roll out onto the pavement.

Cool

That is very nice. I think I can safely describe myself as in no way a classic car person.

However, the Mercedes SL is an exception. I could be happy behind the wheel of any of those SL's, the R128 has something special about it for me in particular.

Is it me or is the first SL just an absolutely beautifull looking car.

I must be in good company then, the first one is also the one for me.

The latest creation is nice, but in my very own personal opinion, 'The weakest Link' Sorry.

Regards,
John

Guy,
Do you happen to know the build date please of your beautiful E55AMG?

Thanks

the gullwing is indeed gorgeous ..

When I was Berlin last Dec, I saw a couple of gorgeous gullwing SLs ... and took some pics. PM me if you want to see these pics. I would post them but my mate is on holiday for 2 weeks.

Nice pic..never fully appreciated how close the evolution was between these..

Very cool picture  Although unless the 2nd one down looks odd Its missing the 190...

For design I would choose the SLR,146,190 in that order I think :) not sure about the normal R230 anymore  it looks nice on the outside but it is just missing somthing out inside, maybe its the lack of polished wood... :D

John,

The earliest date I can find on the paperwork I've got is a 'loading date' of 19th August 2004. Is there somewhere I can look on the car or the docs that has passed me by?

Cheers

Hi Guy,
That is an excellent question and I have just been going through all my documentation and not found a single reference to 'build date' I cannot even find any mention of 'loading date'

As you no doubt know, the dealer tries to keep the 'impatient' customer informed on the progress of the their pride and joy and tells them the build date details.

On the vehicle data card is mention of order numbers, plus production numbers. I tried to see if there was any sort of relevant coding on these numbers, but nothing stands out.

Mine was a January build date and was delivered in February.

I think I recall you saying how your CD player could play Mp3's so I am assuming it is a newer model than mine.

Several of us have been having a very informative discussion about the 211 and I am simply curious as to when Mercedes-Benz changed the basic specifications of the 211. (Not that your AMG can be called 'basic' ;) )

Bye for now,
John

Hi,
Try under the bonnet My car was registered 9/99 but by the engine there is a date stamp of 05/99 :)

Hi Peter,
Thanks for that, four months seems an awful long delivery date, but I will have to chat-up the wife and ask her to have a look. There is an awful lot of plastic covering over the engine, will this date stamp be clearly visible?

Regards,
John

Love it!

I want to own one of each :)

donations anyone?

It is a white sticker at the front about level in the middle of the bonnet :)
But now you think about it 4 months does sound wrong :(
