Fine work. You've had it a while now - how you finding it? I drove a new biturbo SL a couple of months ago and loved it. At £130k though it was way beyond my means!
I loved the look of your S - where is it now?
 
The SL is all good, it's a bit quick that's for sure, even unmodified like mine. I love the interior which is glorious and that engine. Let downs are the dampers which are poor and unusual for a Merc, and the gearbox is neither sporty not comfortable, it's also slightly tardy throttle response but that's a typical Merc trait no matter what car you buy.

The SL is the kind of car that loves smooth roads and sweepers, it has incredible grip for a big car but it doesn't like to turn in very much which is hardly unusual with all that weight up front. So it has it's failings, but I utterly love the look of the car and it feels very special which is really important. It's a very unusual sight on the road and the longer I have it the more I appreciate the design especially in the matt grey.

I'd give it an 8/10 I guess. One day I will replace the dampers with something better and I think that'll solve the main issue I have with it. They make the car bounce too much, the car is underdamped and oversprung, quite a common fault with cars these days.

The S65 sold when I got the SL, I think it's still around near me as I see it at my local dealer quite a lot! Not sure why, it was super reliable when I had it. I miss that car, it had huge character and was superbly built, the V12 had a fabulous sound you can't even replicate with the V8. The torque and overrun was something else.
