SL roof specialist

Hi Guys

Does anyone know of a 129SL roof specialist in the london/middlesex/herts area.

Ive got a 1989/90 sl and the roof does not work and am banging my head against the wall with what is wrong with it

The roof trimmers will not have the equipment to sort out an electrical issue.

You need someone with a Mercedes Star Machine.. so either a dealer or a good independent.

I have a star machine but the car is too early to go on a star machine it has the early square block under the bonnet.

All the checks i have carried out are ok. When i first looked at it one of the checks i did pointed that the control unit was faulty so sent it off to cluster repairs and they said it was faulty and repaired it but have tried it and it still doesnt work.

So need somewhere who specialises in these otherwise i might set fire to it lol!!!!!!!!!!!!

SS Motors have enough R129s passing through their hands that I think they would be worth trying. They are noted for fixing hydraulics problems (the boss's own Grosser is on display at MB World). Their rates are very reasonable

You can self-diagnose the first and second generation roof ECUs using the 38-pin socket.

What exactly is the problem?

This car doesnt have a 38 pin socket it has a small (20pin i think) black connector.

The roof doesnt work at all when you press the roof switch the windows dont go down and the roof does not release. Also the roll over bar does not work when you press the switch.

I had the ecu tested and they said it was faulty so it was repaired and it is still the same
