I have a 1993 R129 SL300,
When the automatic gearbox changes from first gear to second gear the sound of the gear change is odd it is like it is flaring, this only happens at certain speed if I am driving slowly or very hard it does not happen.
also at times the opposite happens and the gear change from first to second will thump and the change will be hard.
But this flarring sound has only just started to happen recently.

The car has only completed 100000 kilometers and the gearbox is serviced regulary.
At the last service the mechanic said the front rubber drive doughnut on the tailshaft is starting to perish.
Could it be the doughnut or a problem with the gearbox ?

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Regards
Neville

I'm assuming that you've checked fluid levels whilst the car is up to temp and engine running as low levels could also cause symptoms like yours.

Sadly it could also be one of your clutch packs giving up the ghost.

You will most likely lose all drive from the gearbox....then gearbox rebuild or 2nd hand replacement etc.

Vlad,
Thanks for the info ,gearbox is full of fluid so must be clutch pack this will be costly
Happy Newyear to you
Regards Neville
PS can I get to the clutch pack to replace it now without taking the transmission out of the car ?
