Sl320 -No cigarette lighter.

btw if you need this i have going spare.

Appreciate the above help and advice. Biturbo I'll get back to you once I've checked whether I can get the original ashtray installed. Thanks.

Ive got the full assembly. Full center console bit ashtray light etc. I pulled it out from my sl60 amg as i bought a full interior from a silver arrow.
You'll just need the wiring to power the lighter and lights etc.

Cheers for the advice - is the wiring easy to come by? Or is this something that a good mechanic can do? To fir the ashtray under the radio do I need to take off the wooden dash?

to be honest it easy to remove etc, i did it. i would imagine it would be simple for an autoelectrician to wire in the power for the lighter, anything 12v.
The wood console comes out but its quite hard as its wedged in. You have to pull down and toward you.
But im sure you can add the interiour assembly without taking it all off.

Ed,

I don't know if you could find a power source from the ignition? Someone had already done so on mine, and I ran it under the dash into the cubby hole on the dash, where I've fitted a spare socket, and an adapter for my ipod, which also sits in there. It makes for a much neater job, as the lead for your tomtom will be just inches away from the windscreen, coming out of the gap around the cubby hole.

Cheers guys will bear those suggestions in mind, hoping to get a free weekend where I can investigate whether my mechanic skills are up to the task.

I've bought an 'R129 OEM Ashtray With Cigar Lighter 1298100579‏' from the States which arrived today so I'm hoping I can plug it in reasonably easily.

Will keep you posted!

There's two bolts in behind the climate control that you are meant to undo. Then it comes out quite easily.

Job completed, took just over 2 hours for a local auto electrician to install. £35.

Bargain seeing as MB Southampton quoted £200 and MB Poole £115.

I can now enjoy trouble free navigation once again! :)

Hi!

Apologies for reviving a four year-old thread... I ran into exactly the same problem with my 1991 R129; no cigar lighter socket for charging phones etc, and to resolve I also ended up purchasing the '129 810 05 79' ashtray that fits in the front hinged compartment (also fixed the hinge clicker while I was at it), but ran into the obvious problem that ed_d82 pointed out... where exactly should I pinch the power from?

The fuse box suggests I should be using the feed for the 'glove compartment light / relay comfort circuit term.86 / storage compartment lamp'... is any of this accessible lower down with all of the switches etc. or would that just be too easy?! ed_d82, where did you source yours from?

Incidentally, I found a bit of a mess under the horizontal part of the console; the previous owner had wired his phone unit up to the blue/red wire on the ADS switch (?), which is no longer in use. This seems to be ignition driven but according to a wiring diagram from stats007 on another post, comes from the ADS control unit rather than directly from the fusebox, so I am reluctant to use that. I also don't know what fuse that is sourced from or how much power I can draw from it.

Any advice on where best to get power would be very much appreciated!

Ok, so I totally forgot the other storage compartment existed , and it has a lamp so there must be some power under there... guessing this is the best place to source it from! Answered my own question :D
