Unfortunately it looks like the small weap I was getting from the RMS has now got to the point where it can no longer be ignored.

Car is a 2004 SL 350 with the M112 3.7 V6.

Can anyone advise what the book time is for the job so I can work out if the quotes I’ve been getting are in the ballpark. Obviously 95% of the cost of the job will be labour the the seal itself only being a £28 part from the main dealer. (Who’s labour rate is £158 an hour) Is there anything else also worth changing preventively while the box is out the car?

Apart from the obvious gearbox service I would change the electrical seal connector, its not an expensive part and can be changed in minutes.
I would consider a good MB independent for the work. Good luck.

If you have a teeny-weeny oil weep and it hasn't gone to long time that it drips on the floor?
You could try the Omega917 gasket treatment.
Next time you change oil and filter you can add a % percentage of this Omega917 into the engine with the new engine oil.
The Omega917 lubricates gaskets keeping them fresh even the old ones.

Omega helps on diffs, gearboxes and engines as long as it doesn't drip on the floor, then it's too late and you need to buy new gaskets or seals.
All MB will eventually suffer from random oil weeps.

This gasket treatment cost a few quids but could be worth a try rather than having to pay for taking everything apart.
Good luck

How many miles has your done?

It’s done 56k miles.

The car is pretty much immaculate as only use it on nice days in the summer. As for the suggestion of the oil additive, i think it’s gone past the point where this will work as it’s quite a substantial leak now.

As I have done my own RMS.

I changed the pilot bush on the gearbox, 8x bolts on the flywheel, the metal plate surrounding the crank (along with all them small bolts that hold it in place), 2x gaskets on the gearbox dip stick tube, metal washers on the oil lines and finally a gearbox service.

Loads of these are optional but I might as well do them if I am there (it’s a long term car for me).
