SL350 rear window trim

The wide black trim on each side of the rear window on our newly acquired 04 sl shows some deterioration of the surface finish. Tried polishing with a few products with no success. Not sure but are these panels glass , metal or what? Are they easily replaceable if so how does one get them off? Alternatively how could they be refinished maybe wrapped? Many thanks Pete

They are plastic and can't be repaired - mine are the same. They can be removed and can buy new ones at MB.

Thanks for response. Any clue as to how to remove the panels? Thought I might try having them wrapped in gloss black instead of replacement as a first step.
