Hi

A few years back I got an SL55 with the view to use it on track. It's been sat in a barn doing nothing as I've been too busy to sort it.

I'm keen to do something with it now though, so got it MOTd a few weeks back.

I put new batteries on it and it seems ok, with just a couple of problems.

Even with new batteries it says the electric consumables are offline. I'm guessing there is a power sap from somewhere... anywhere in particular I should be looking?

The roof and the little wind deflector thing has stopped working. They definitely worked before it was stored for so long. There is nothing from the wind deflector. When the roof button is pressed, the windows drop a fraction like they should do, then nothing. I'm presuming it's seized or something, so are there any servicing tips for it?

Many thanks!

No idea really, but on my CLK convertible resetting the windows helped when i had no action from the roof, i used to lower the windows at the same time and keep holding the button down for 10 seconds and then raise then and hold the button again for 10 seconds.

Another idea i have heard about is that there are two switches in the boot, that tell the ecu/command that there isnt enough space in the boot to stow the roof, i think these get stuck in either open or shut might be something like that.

Im sure someone with 1st hand knowledge will be about to correct me and give you the right solution.

Good luck

What codes are you getting?

Assuming its an early SL55, likely to have an original tracker on it and the sealed lead acid batteries for those die and take loads of power failing to charge all the time. Thats quite likely your battery drain. Just have to find it. Look around the fusebox under the cover in the stowage bin behind right hand seat.

You'll need Star Diagnosis to work out which sensor is not returning the correct value thus causing the roof not to operate - possibly one of them on the roll-bar so it can't be sure it is down before opening the roof

Thanks guys will have a poke around this weekend.

Not had any faults read yet - I have not got a reader so going for the cheaper option first!

Cheers

Windows need to be set by lowering all the way down and then raising up while continuing to hold the bottom for a couple of secs after they reach the top so that the system knows when the top is reach and can drop as the windows open. When I bought mine, the roof did not work, it turned out to be a small plug behind the side panel on the (LHD) passenger side that was disconnected. It let it know that the luggage tray was in place.
