SL55 AMG V8 Kompressor

Coincidence or not, I’d say I see more TVR’s round my way than SL55’s and in fact I’d say I’ve seen more ‘65 AMG’s round here than SL55’s (three S65’s & two SL65’s).
 
Possibly better driving roads for a TVR up your way. Also maybe more open minded petrol heads than the non-hardened southern Jessie's down here!

Always plenty of flash motors around my way as have some fairly affluent areas surrounding in Hadley Wood, Brookmans Park etc. with plenty of showey folk. Not me I night add [emoji6]
 
I think my personal definition of a rare car is one produced in tens or hundreds. As soon as you go thousands it starts to lose that rarity for me

Not when the cars in question were built some 15-20 years ago!!

You tend to hear a TVR before you see it (making it more noticeable) so that’s a possible explanation, I know and love the sound of the 55K like my own child but it’s got nowhere near the raucousness of the V8 in a TVR...
 
I can vouch for that. Been wrestling with an upgrade to a later T Car of some description and have always loved the Tuscan. They just seem to be expensive for what they are not giving great VFM but prefer the V8 to the Speed Six noise.
 
Neighbour has a beautiful pearl yellow TVR Griffith 500 which he pulls out of the garage twice a year to let it idle for a bit, and then rev it a few times. He’s just done it last weekend, so I’ll probably hear it next in late September. Shame, lovely car.
 
Very nice...many are 20-30k now. Some really nice ones that have had silly money spent and other end of scale some unloved ones with little spent. It shows visible quite quickly the difference.

The SL 600 Bi-turbo may increase, but your in for a long wait for the SL55 to follow suit, great cars(engine) I loved my E55 but sold that for a derisory sum that was the market value at that time. Good luck with the sale...one thing though,you'll regret it...

That looks a real dog bodywork wise, cost abit to put that right. Common merc livery. Partial history.. says it all.
 
I'm not sure changing the price from 17995 to 16500 with no offers is going to make much difference is it?

Most people will expect to look to try to buy a 17995 car for comfortably under 17995.

I would say your better holding on to it as I'm sure it needs to be max 15k.
 
Rarity or original price are no indication of value or collect-ability with cars, it's desirability and supply that drives prices. There were well under 300 of mine brought into the country (I believe total world production of saloons and estates was around 3000) and they cost over £70k but you can buy one these days for less than the cost of a half decent 2 door Mk1 escort.
 
You're probably right. I am getting more interest to be honest at the reduced price but the problem with that is...what could i buy out there that is such great value?
On a sunny day with the roof down, walking up to it - it looks the dog's b**locks and driving it hard thru tunnels....same.
I'm getting a lump in my...trous....er..throat now:D

I love trying different cars - usually last 2 years ish. Merc is now in its 5th year!
Perhaps i should park it out of sight? Yes, that's it if i can't see it i won't think about it!
And i never liked those awful paddle shifts anyway....and that stupid distronic holding me back.....yes... and the seat motor takes yonks to slide fwd.
Damn.
 
Finally SOLD..........am I happy or sad.........mixed feelings.
Sold to a guy who owned an SL65! Said the 65 was 'too refined' and "never sounded angry". Didn't rate the V12 bi-turbo at all.
Sold @ £16k.
Over the 5 years I had her, I spent £5k in spares and repairs and lost £500 in resale value. £5.5k over 5 years equates to £20/week....£80/month. For the honour of owning a supercar....Ausgezeichnet! [Please don't tell me the SL55 AMG is NOT a supercar - read all the road tests and tell me otherwise].
So to all those doubters - yes it took 7 months, yes I had to drop from my 'expected' resale value of just shy of £18k (thanks to your inputs), but the message here is: SL55's are in the ascendance (and so they should be too!). I knew it, just knew it......

/55 more of a muscle car engine. /65 is more like w super car engine

Both are wonderful motors
