Sl60

Stats.......my initial enquiries to MB & AMG both came back that the was not known to either for SL60 spec. I was told by both MB & AMG that according to their records the car was an SL500 with AMG Styling and Wheels. There is no 957 AMG Technology Package on the glued in data card in the maintenace booklet and the VIN did not come up on the Russian VIN site.

Therefore there was more than a simple engine number anomaly so surely you can understand my need to confirm all was genuine and persisting until the full records were found.

Im just glad you bought it and saved me 10K as I was having thoughts of buying the car and putting the engine in my E500.

LOL...no problem. Always happy to help. ;)

Got a nice 96MY SL500 you can have instead for £10k! Realistically I am putting it up for £7495ono so any one interested let me know. Done so much work on it over the six months I have had so it a bit frustrating that I saw the SL60 but hey ho...that's life I guess. Just got to fix the auxiliary fans not coming on and it should be good to go after that. Spent about £1500 on her so far so just want to get my money back on what I paid plus parts I have bought. My labour time was for free of the last 6 months!

Any ideas on the auxiliary fans? They come on perfectly when powered by 12v stright into the plug but seems like relay maybe. If I disconnect the CTS they should be forced on permantly but they don't. Either a break in a wire somewhere or the relay. Anyone had the issue on an R129 at all??

That is what I thought and have changed the one I thought it was but no improvement. The relay I changed was the one that controls the CTS readings as when you pull it out the temp gauge reads '0'. Plug it in and the temp gauge works perfect. Also though if I shorted the circuit but disconnecting the CTS they would come on but no...I guess if the realy was knackered and I am barking up the wrong relay then it wouldn't work.

Maybe my SL60 has the same relays and set up so I can try the relays out of there to see if that helps. Would it make any difference if the air con system is low or out of refrigerant? The charge seems low as air con temp is not cold. One more thing I needed to resolve on the SL500!

Well done for your persistance to find the facts - something that no previous owner or prospective owner ever verified on this vehicle. Despite some of those prospective buyers thinking they are the Lord of facts and stats (and even name themselves on club forums as such).

Good work !

Have been away and have just caught up. Great news and well done in confirming it is a SL60 and also I aplaud your perseverance. Now enjoy.

I have loved the last couple of weeks as the SL60 is so much better than the SL500. I can see exactly what everyone meant as it brings a nice smile and special feeling to know only 48/49 other people in the UK are experiencing the same thing.

Had a change to wash, wax and polish her yesterday and it was a pleasure. First car I have owned in a long while that I actually wanted to spend time cleaning properly. She certainly won't be going near any £5 hand wash places now.

I now have had an e-mail from Mercedes CAC to confirm in writing that the car is a genuine SL60 AMG. This will be followed up with a letter as well.

Anyone know of a decent bodywork specialist near Potters Bar that would be good enough and care enough to do a good job on a smidge of rust it has on the rear off-side quarter?

Has anyone got any thoughts on what make of spark plug to use on an SL60 AMG if there is any difference between NGK and Bosch??

I have updated my site now at www.sl60amg.com so have some pics on there now. I might consider hosting this site for owners to have their own picture galleries if there was a requirement?? Anyone interested or think the site could be useful? It is based on Wordpress so is very flexible and can host not just pics and videos/movies but also content of PDF's docs etc.

Any views?

I forgot to mention as well that I have scanned in a popped the Dyno Report on the website as well for anyone who is interested. It seems to be running to MB specs but not to the unnofficial specs as some have reported 400+ bhp.

This was the reason behind my qestion on spark plugs as that will be a good cheap thing to start with as I have a very very slight miss on idle.

The Dyno Sheet from the session the other week is on www.sl60amg.com an in the bit on the right of the site at under Misc. Just click on the link on the left once you have clicked on Misc to open the PDF.

My E60 Ran on Bosch, IIRC,

Terry.
