Hi all does anybody know how reliable the old 6.0 v12 engine is?

Thanks in advance!

There can be issues with MAF, ETA, wiring looms, all very expensive to replace.

Never dismiss misfires as just needing a tune-up, the seller is hiding a problem!

Mechanically I believe it's pretty bulletproof, just let down my electrical gremlins.

I regularly see one at my Indie. Seems to spend more time there than on the road.

does anybody know what engine number this is? is it 2 m103's stuck together?

"does anybody know what engine number this is?"

Engine 120.981
Gearbox 722.362

The M103 is an inline six.

As far as technology goes, it is the equivalent of 2 x M103, it's not a very sophisticated engine. Mind you, I would love to own a 600SL :thumb: Just not sure my wallet could cope

Just looking at the engine want to dump it in to another car and do few more mods to it! just wanted to know how good the engine is, ive never come across it even thou I worked at a high end garage where i would get to drive lots of porsche's lambo's, ferrari's etc hardly any merc v12 loads of 5.5 Ks thou and 500's

I have one in my S class, which so far....has been great. Replaced two coil packs earlier in the year £40 each but thats all. Go for a lateish car '97 onwards and the wiring harness should not be a problem.

The Pagani Zonda uses an AMG tuned version of the Merc V12.
