I posted a thread about this some months ago, but did not see any response to it.
The problem I had was that the door would not latch closed, which was inconvenient, to say the least. It was an intermittant fault, and I lived with by not opening that door at all. This week I decided I had to open the door, and then it just would not latch closed. So I asked a Mercedes mechanic, who said "it is probably the door catch that is buggered " !
I decided to take the panels off, and found that there is what looks like, a solenoid. (probably part of the central locking ?) inside the door, which has a 'plug-in' electrical connector. I unplugged this and cleaned it, replaced it, and the door latched immediately. This suggests that when the door is closed, it latches electrically (separately from the central locking) Can anybody confirm this, as a matter of interest, and possibly as a help to other members please ?
