when i 'thrash' the sprinter, it gets overly warm - gets to 105 ish degrees, cruising at 70 - 80.

changed thermostat.

flushed rad and engine (half an hour each)

'rad cleaner-ed' teh system - left it in for 2 days - a bit of an improvement (used to go to 110 degrees)

OK - this isnt actually boiling over - but it does concern me.

No oil in water / water in oil

does use a bit of oil... well its been abused for 170,000 miles :(

anyhting ive missed? ENGINE STARTS AND RUNS FINE, (bloody caps lock) havent checked the timing (injection) - but i think it might be electronic (the throttle is electronic... Its a 1997 BTW

TIA

Air locks in the coolant system.....when you changed the coolant did you have the heater dials on Max? If not you are likely to have some air-locks in the system.

If thats all OK, then I would suspect the radiator, especially if its the original.

As a rule the 300D's in W124's run very cool.

Just for info.

Injection timing is manual. It should be 14 deg ATDC using a timing tool in the side of the pump body.

replaced the viscous fan - much better - but still gets 'hot' when thrashing it (needle shows up to 105ish degrees)

Ill get the timing checked....
