Hi all

Just today my steering has started to make an odd slight "honking" noise and when it does it (which is only briefly as you turn the wheel) I can feel a minor vibration through the steering wheel.

Doesn't matter if its fast or slow, it's at about a quarter turn each way.

I initially thought maybe power sterring belt or even lust the sterring wheel rubbing, but I ran my fingers round the steering wheel/column and it doesn't appear to be that, and it's not really a squeal if a belt was slipping.

Any thoughts any one ?

Thanks

I've got a similar thing on my 2001 W210 - but it only happens when the car is warm, not immediately after starting up. Sometimes sounds like a horn being blown when I turn the wheel at low speeds - parking etc.

I'd be interested to see if anyone can suggest what it might be.

If the ball joint has just gone faulty (though it needed one relacing for it's MOT last month) what is the worst case scenario for that ?

Will it catastrophically fail at some point?

If it is the power steering pump are they a) expensive b) easy to fit?

Thanks

Is it something as simple as where the steering shaft goes through a rubber grommet in the bulkhead thats gone dry?
