Car
CLK 270 CDI
Hi distinguished members of the Mercedes Benz Club,

Last week I made the best purchase of my life so far- a Mercedes CLK 270 CDI (YESSSS!).
The car has been driving like a dream, however yesterday I encountered something that may be a problem. A friend wanted to take it for a spin, I sat with him whilst he said he will give it a little run on a highway. This is where the problem starts...

The car is an Automatic, and he put his foot right down on the accelerator and the car got to about 50mph in no time, at which point the engine cut and the yellow engine warning light came on. The engine had cut on the motorway with no hard shoulder. After stopping he start the car and it came on as normal, and then thought he'd try again to see if this happens again, the same thing happened- at which point the engine cut at 30mph.

The car has been driving totally fine since- at higher speeds too on the highway. My thoughts are that the reason the engine cut out because:

1) His foot was fully down on the accelerator, and due to the fact the engine had been on for only 10 minutes- was too cool to cope with such strain

2) Earlier in the drive, he out the car in Neutral at a speed of about 30mph whilst driving.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Having initially been worried, I am less so now as the car is running totally fine and the Computer shows NO error messages

Start by changing the fuel filter and checking for air leaks into the fuel pipes.

Two things:

Get any error codes read, even though there may be none on the display there may be fault codes stored. You need an MB dealer or specialist with STAR computer to do this, secondly I suggest that you chose who drives your car more carefully in future!

Why would you put the car into neutral at speed and then re-engage drive?

Thank you DSM,
Do you know a ballpark figure for the diagnostic?

Also- rest assured I will be extremely vigilant over who breathes on my car from now! Hugely rookie error.

Before doing anything get it plugged in. It maybe somthing very minor.

Cheers,
Is this done via the STAR computer at an MB Dealer that DSM mentioned above?

Done on Star yes, but numerous independents (such as Olly - BlackC55) - have it too. If you give your location someone may be able to suggest a local one for you. Independents are likely to be more reasonable on cost.

Thanks for that,
I think it will be best if I do the STAR computer check firstly.

I've still got my fingers crossed that there is nowt wrong. I'll be pretty upset if I found a fault with a car that I have owned for just a few days... Coincidentally my FIRST car!
