Morning All,

Anyone come across these? I am seeing them more, & more often.

What can we do about them? They do rip off a hell of a lot of people!

Regards

Want to expand a little? Got no idea what you're talking about lol

Hiding behind the bushes? :dk:

Who , or what , are they ? What is the con ?

What , for that matter , is a slip lane ? Is it a nautical term perhaps ?

Or maybe just a narrow lane with ice on the surface ?

Try Google guys, plenty on there. :dk:

They can't be that prevalent given how noone's heard of them.

I just googled slip lane con men and the top link is to this thread lol

Apart from this link, there's a daily mail story about some slip road road rage.

Still have no idea what the OP is on about I'm afraid.

This one?

Had something similar while walking in the street, a elderly 'foreign' chap walking towards me just happened to find a very heavy 'gold' ring on the pavement - he picked it up and asked if it was mine - then offered it to me anyway - he tried to engage in conversation but the entire scene looked embarrassingly (for him) amateurish so I wished him well and walked away.

On three other separate occasions I was offered by Italian chaps who stopped next to me in a car to buy 'surplus' designer suits..... again I didn't stick around long enough to find-out what the con was, but they all had 'beware' written all over them... :D

That type of con has been around for many years. When I was young it was high end speakers that were surplus stock. There's also the water bottles in the laptop bag. That's done the rounds for a few years too.

I don't have too much sympathy for the people who fall for these cons, as let's face it, they normally think they're getting stolen goods, and end up with nothing.

Hmm , interesting , but a bit daft .

If someone has run out of petrol , what good is cash to them - they can't put it in their tank .

I have in the past stopped and given people the spare gallon of petrol out of my emergency can - without looking for money - or offered to tow them a short distance to safety if stopped on a bend or some other hazardous place .

Since most vehicles are now diesel , my petrol won't help them either now .

true, it's a very poor con, but I'm afraid there are some very trusting people out there

For many modern Diesel engines... if they run out of fuel... your spare Diesel oil wouldn't have helped them either (unless they know how to prime the fuel system).

I remember , about 25 years ago , being approached in the car park of my bank , and being offered something or other ( surplus stock ) by a shady couple in a BMW . When I politely declined they became abusive , at which point I asked if the bank knew about their enterprises going on in their car park and pointed to the cctv camera and said it possibly wasn't the best spot to conduct shady deals .

I never said anything in the bank , but they were gone when I came out 5 mins later .

Some of confusion seems deliberate to me.

I was genuinely puzzled as I haven't heard that term in years - most these days talk about entrance/exit lanes , or on/off ramps ...

I've always called them slip roads.
