Slk 1.8 infra red key

Hi all, i've just bought this car, a 2005 model, worked fine for a week or two. As i went to open the car the other morning the alarm went off and in my haste i pressed the buttons to stop it. The car ignition has worked sporadicly for a week but now the control panel wont energise and the key won't turn.
I've changed the batterys and charged up the main battery but no joy, i'm totally stuck.
I read some where that the keys need to be re-set.
Would be much obliged for any help.

Had similar problem with my 05 CLK. It had a new ignition switch fitted but it always started. Fuel and water guage would play up and no indicators. The keys has to be synchronized by the dealer (star?). I don't know if your has the same system. Happy Christmas!!
