My battery is flat and I need to charge it. I watched on YouTube for this and noticed on a couple of videos that they used a surrogate battery connected to the jump start terminal before they disconnected the flat battery. Is this the correct way to do this for say changing the flat battery for a new battery as well. if anybody knows I’d much appreciate you’re input.

It stops your car losing a lot of the settings that rely on the battery . It can save a lot of bother .

You can connect the charger to the red jump start terminal and it will charge the battery in situ.

When my R171 is in her garage I connect a battery conditioner/charger direct to the battery terminals. Simply open the bonnet wide, release the 3 clips that hold the diverter funnel thing over the battery and connect the conditioner to the clamps! These days I find the S204, which lives on the driveway, looses charge slowly and after 2 weeks or so the condition monitor shows amber rather than green, I connect a smart charger direct to the battery, once it reached full charge the charger automatically switches off - and as I can close the tailgate over the extension lead and lock the car, I can leave it overnight!
