I folks, first post here and hope to get some help. I have a SLK 200k 2007 It has just failed the mot, i have very sooty exhaust pipes, the garage has said it requires a new intake manifold air control actuator bank 2 supply voltage low? He says these are around £750 +. Anyone have any views about this, is it a common fault? Thanks. Yorkie

Would anyone by chance know if these can be sourced second hand and where I could get one, I don't even know what they look like, is it an electronic gadget, it just seems like a lot of money for an electronic sensor. A part number would be very useful. Many thanks. Yorkie

Try an Italian tune up before spending any dosh.

Yup....I always Italian tune my old buses before MoT's. Never had an emission fail.

I have to ask, what is an Italian tune up, is it like a British wind up?

No wind up....it's making sure the engine's had a good blow out and is nice and hot when it gets tested.

Just drive like enthusiastic Carabinieri for a few miles:D

Thanks, I tried that, didn't work, the max limit for the co emission is 0.30%, I have 2.64% at idle and 2.8% at fast idle.

Injector cleaner - motorway thrash - another test centre = pass

Can you please explain star first and MSL, I am prepared to get help to resolve this problem, just not sure what you are suggesting, are these tune up experts on diagnostic gurus? Thanks again

Star is the Mercedes diagnostics machine.

MSL are a local indy based in Birmingham. Acid is the guy who owns it. He is sponsor on this forum. Go to acid and you wont be disappointed.

Hi Yorkie

Where are you based ?

If you aren't nearby Birmingham , like a good deal of the population isn't , then maybe we can recommend another Indy other than MSL. There are others out there amazingly !

Hi Howard, I'm in York. I would be grateful for a more local guru, the mot runs out on the 11th.

If you failed your mot there remainder of your original mot is quashed.

Is that the case? I always thought it was valid until it expired.

ETA: Quick google turns this up: "..A VOSA spokesperson confirms: "Should you present your vehicle early and the vehicle fails the test, your original certificate still remains valid until its expiry date."

See: http://www.confused.com/car-insurance/blogs/can-you-drive-your-car-if-it-has-failed-mot

However, if you get a tug from Plod, you can be prosecuted if the reason for the failure has not been corrected.

Which would be the case anyway.

That is untrue, The MOT ,as initially issued is still valid until the expiry date.
