SLK 230 kompressor cam chain

Hi all, have 1998 230K with a noisey cam chain on start up, new tensioner fitted, new chain and new top tensioner, its for 3 seconds the noise and its as quiet as ever there after, have changed oil filter, if I start up same day no noise, oil draining away from tensioner? the electro magnet on the camshaft end, this not new but off a known vehicle.
Anyone any ideas, engine turns over easy so chain not too tight.
Any assistance gratefully received.

Are you sure it's the chain? Seems unlikely considering the parts replaced.

Are you on synthetic oil by any chance? Seen this a few times on the 230k synthetic just doesn't suit them. Drop the oil flush the engine and refill with semi syn and it may just cure it all the 230k engines I know are quieter on semi syn

Hi, yes on synthetic, have 240k mile clk with same engine, always on fully synthetic, will try semi synthetic and let you know.

It's when it's been run on semi syn in the first place and then swapped to fully syn that makes them noisy for some reason if they have always been run on fully syn they usually fine
