SLK 230, 2002, Chalcedony Blue Metallic, AMG wheels and body kit.
I don't see many posts on here from SLK owners (?R170?). - not sure if I've got the R 170 bit right.
Don't they have any issues or are there not many owners?

Basically they don't have many issues. And there probably aren't as many owners on here as other types.

  • Older ones suffer rust (no probs on our 2004 one).
  • MAF sensors vulnerable in the 200 and 230
  • Speed sensors go
  • Everybody is paranoid about the roof (ours was OK after 7.5 years).
  • And you need to look after the roof/boot seals.

Apart from that they are built like tanks and go well.

Main issue as with all MBs of that era is rust. Mechanically very strong. Was yours a special order? Dont think Chalcedony blue was ever available on an SLK - only on the S-class.

I don't have a record of it being a special order, but I do realise that the colour is quite rare. I have full service history by main MB dealers plus one indy. 2002 car on a 51 reg with 38k miles, and rust free!

Check the boot seals and also drain holes.

Water can get down into where the speed sensors are connected (and also to where the central locking system actuator). This can cause the engine check, ESP, and BAS sensors to appear.
