I’m thinking of buying a 2012 SLK 55 with the performance pack
No real knowledge of the difference and whether the premium is worth the money

Any thoughts welcomed

Had a std SLK 55 , loved it , remember reading about the Performance Pack , am sure if you Google it you will find out exactly what it is , seem to recall from my research before I purchased mine that it was worth paying for , but it depends upon what your expectations are of the car. I was more than happy with the std setup.
This is what I could find
The Performance Pack consists of larger composite brake discs, uprated suspension, a unique steering wheel finished in leather and Alcantara, 18-inch alloy wheels, carbon interior trim and raised speed limiter, normally operating at 155mph but in this instance revised to 174mph. The result is a notably more focused sports car, with the scope to exploit its power fully and the brakes and suspension to handle it.

Mine's a PP, which was a £4k option back then. In addition to the other stuff (you wouldn't pay that for a steering wheel...) you also get a Limited Slip Diff (the expensive bit).

Mine has also been 'optimised' ('definitely not a remap'...), engine and gearbox, for the previous owner, a race driving instructor who is the driving team leader at MB Brooklands, by a well-known tuning firm, MBS, in Suthampton. It's an absolute cracker; streets ahead of the R171 SLK 55, which had been remapped, that I had before it. The 171 was a raucous little thug of a thing, and I loved it; the 172 is more civilised, and I love it too.

Many thanks for your thoughts

I’ll look at MBS too

I do love my 172, and having driven both, its definitely a more refined car.

I am about to fit an LSD and fiddle with the exhaust valve system and mapping so it should be plenty fast.

I don't think it needs bigger brakes considering its size.

Suspension. KW v3 should be on your list. Probably before those other things.

My R172 SLK does not have the performance pack but the only 'advantage' is the brakes.. easily solved by fitting EBC yellowstuff pads... brakes never fade. As for the speed limiter... remap at GAD to 450 and remove it.. 184 on the Autobahn is achievable .. great car and sensible when you want it to be.. a great daily commute car :D
