I am lead to believe the the SLK acronym is meant to mean, Sportlich (Sportive) Leicht (Light) Kurz (Short).
Anyone else any suggestions, amusing or otherwise ?

Sold Lost 20K

gary

Had mine for a year from new and it cost me less than £3k so maybe it's Seriously Lovely Koupe:o
Can't see me getting away from the S or the ML without taking a much bigger hit!

I've also read Kompact in the dim and distant past.

I always IMAGINED it was Sport Leicht Kleine - ie small SL , which is exactly what it is .

I have always thought that it is Sport Leicht Kleine .

K is for "Kompact" - I remember it from the brochure when I bought one when they were launched. There was a great moment on Top Gear when Jeremy Clarkson was having a go at women drivers and said "I bet you don't know what the "K" stands for". The woman next to him didn't and he then announced that it stood for "Kompressor".

Some say that the whole thing stands for

"The designation SLK derives from the company's design mission to create a roadster that was at once sporty, light and short — in German: Sportlich, Leicht und Kurz."

From Wikipedia.

Gary 350...

You lost 20K on probably a quite well specced SLK? over what period of time?

That's just buying new cars for you?, your current car will lose a bit over the time

The car was 3 years 9 months old with just over 5K Jaguar offered me 2K more for it (XF) than MB (CLS).

The correct wording for SLK is taken from the R170 book I bought from Mercedes just before I bought my SLK 230K in 1998 (still got both book and car)

Sporty Light Compact - sportlich leicht kompakt

5K a year over nearly 4 years isn't that bad on a new car....

Had you only done 5K miles in that time? as thats the silly thing it was probably worth as much with 20K on it..

Oh well you enjoyed it as you are your Jag, its only money :)
