Hi All

I've had an SLK AMG 55 since the beginning of this summer and really enjoy it but just lately have felt the need for it to be a little louder under acceleration and at tickover whilst not being too much louder on a motorway cruise.

So - I am looking at an X pipe conversion at CKS in Watford.

Guess its a given that the resonator will be removed but what about the secondary cats.

Are they needed for emissions - is their removal going to make MOT time difficult.

Is there really any BHP gained by their removal?

Any pictures you have may help.

Thanks

One bit of advise I'd give..............stay clear of CKS Watford. Overpriced and seriously lacking in customer satisfaction.

You'd do far better going to Olly at PCS or Eldin at EMP for a x-pipe and secondary cat removal. Some even prefer keeping the secondaries and just gutting them and re welding although to my ears it sounds a bit boomy.
I had my secondaries removed at Torqueflow (MSL) in Birmingham and emissions at MOT time haven't been a problem. Its all down to the MOT tester on the day.
No idea on BHP gain as I had my rolling road session after the decat and x -pipe bit it should be maybe up to 10 extra.

Many photos of my x pipe on here, but here is one more.

Coolbiker - presumably you have an R171 SLK55, ie: the one without the valves in the tailpipes? The R172 model (with the valves) sounds pretty good when the pipes are fully open on WOT and I don't think needs the resonator removed. But having heard an R171 with X-Pipe and 2ndry CAT removal, the noise is really quite lovely, unless you're a neighbour and you try to creep back into the house at 4am...!

Don't look too long.

Try the places suggested in the post below yours by AMGeed. Trust me.

Yes it's an R171.

What's up with CKS - seems some pretty negative feedback.

As I said in my post above, poor customer service and overpriced.

You want an example?
They sell a carbon diffuser for an E55 for around £600.
It costs around £250 from the USA and CKS add their own (huge) markup.

Up to you, but I wouldn't entertain them for a light bulb.

Rather than query negative feedback, you'd be well advised to run with some of the positive feedback. MSL and PCS are (almost) always positively spoken of, and PCS are just down the A3 from you :thumb:

But it's your car, and your money :dk:

Listen to Blue Moon. EMP in St. Albans are also superb for this type of work, but given your location PCS would be my choice.

EMP St Albans, very good indeed. Speak to Simon or Eldin, get Dave to do the work. :thumb:

Hi All

In the end - I cancelled my slot at CKS and had the modification done at EMP.

Very pleased with the work.

I had the resonator removed and left the secondary cats in place. Now have an X pipe
that sounds great.

Louder than standard, quite cruising and a bit louder under acceleration.

Just what I wanted and half the price that CKS wanted.

Nice one!

You need kleemann headers & down pipes now, trust me, you need it.
