They are indeed. I was thinking of buying one myself to use as a station car during the week and fun car at the week-end. Price are from £1,500 to £4,000 for good quality with low mileage ones. Bargains really!

I am looking for an automatic one.

Would anyone have any tips to give away before buying?

    Cheers

    Alex

Look out for rust, the early ones can be a bit scabby (the are Mercedes I suppose).

apart from rust scabs on early ones, little niggles like water in rear wheel speed sensor plugs and sticking micro switches for the roof, they are bullet proof little cars. looking for one for my missus. too cramped for me to squeeze into though!

I have not long had a SLK230, a great car, but watch out for the pinion bearing whining. If the torque is set incorrectly it sends the bearing a bt skew whiff and you end up with not only the seal leaking but the whine too.
