Black SLK 350
After years of owning BMW's coupes and saloons I've finally made the break and bought a Mercedes; a black 350 SLK. So far it's great - but how do I keep the textured matt black dash clean ? After only 2 weeks of owning it I have white spots appearing. I've seen plenty of references to these on the web, but I can't find any information on the best way to keep the inside of the car clean. Can somone advise me please ? Is it as simple as frequent use of a clean microfibre cloth and water or is there a better way ? Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry if this is an old old question.

Give it a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and some mild detergent. I have tried lots of products but the one that works best is Meguiars Natural shine or something similar in a red bottle in Halfords. Smells pleasant and leaves a nice matt finish which doesn't attract dirt.

The Polishing Company (do a google search) do a spray called 303 Aerospace Protectant. It's great for the dash and can even be used on tyres etc. It is not too shiney but more importantly includes a sunblock to stop the vinyl ageing so quickly in the heat of the British summer (all 3 days of it!).

Good luck with your quest.

Dont use anything on the 'rubbery' bits that leaves a residue or eventually it will become shiney and look awfull. Mild non aggresive detergent well diluted is best, I have some wipes which i will post a piccie of later, see if you can get some where you live they are PERFECT!. Forget the provided microfibre cloth, keep it for your glasses!, even that leaves small bits of white fluff.

One trick that I have found to be very good for the 'white' stuff that remains in the grain is to take some low tack pvc, (not the cloth variety), electricians adhesive tape, place it over the mark, rub well into the grain, then remove the tape and it brings all the white stuff away with it. After that, tell folks to keep their hands in their pockets and dont touch a thing, thank you very much.

Portzy.

PS My rubber is spotless btw;)

The new SLK interior is a suede effect so products for a standard vinyl type finish are not suitable.

I would suggest using a soft brush perhaps attached to a hoover to stir up and suck up any dust. If you have marks then you might want to try a toothbrush with some water and mild detergent on and gently brush in then rinse with clean water on a microfibre cloth. Make sure the detergent is very very dilute or getting it off will be a nightmare. I would try with plain water first only moving to detergent if that doesn't work;)

Simoniz Matt Dashboard Cleaner with a microfibre cloth is brilliant stuff for a normal matt dashboard.

Dunno if it would work on suede though, check the label. I accept no responsibility etc...[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
