I have a couple of oil leaks from the differential on my Slk 230. One is from the front pinion seal and the other from the gasket at the rear of the diff.
I understand that the pinion seal has a squashable ring which ensures that tolerances are within bounds. Does anyone know how to get this setting correctly as I have been told that if incorrecly set, it can put offset loads on the pinion bearing making it whine, which is what I have at the moment.

Any information on this suject would be very welcome.

From memory its 180nm of torque for the pinion nut. You ll need to hold the drive flange whilst tightening it. A couple of bolts wedged with a bar should do the trick!
