Hi folks
I have just secured a pair of OEM xenons for my R170 :bannana:
There seems an extra plug on them (something to do with self levelng) Can i just leave it unplugged /blank or do i have to go the whole hog and have the sensors on the suspension fitted as whiteneniss had done

for true legality; as per whitenemesis, in addition to washers!
if not, then get them levelled using a proper rig at a garage/MOT test centre, using the 2 adjusters(one of which is visible top right of your pic)

If on your existing headlamps you had manual vaccuum operated levelling system, you will have to blank off the ends of the the vacuum pipes that go to the headlamps.

Or else you may be able to pop off the electic unit on yours in the pic and put the vacuum type from your existing unit on if the fitments are the same.

Yes i have headlamp washers so i.m half way there.i suppose i will have to get them aligned and enabled on star.
Roll on saturday

Do i need to install the sensors on the axle and wiring ???

As far as I know after market or modified Xenon lights, washers are not required...
It is a requirement for the car manufacturers on new cars only.

Now personally I do not see the washers to make any difference to my night vision... despite the fact they make the car a mess and they produce even more spray than the windscreen washers haha :D

You do if you want auto levelling and/or want to be truly legal!

It is your choice whether to fit them!
Many on this site have simply fitted the lights. as long as they have the beams correctly aligned, they should pass the MOT, but will depend on the tester.
I have retrofitted them without the levelling(not got round to it yet) or washers(no intention as would need another bumper/respray & washers & works out too expensive to be practical) & it has passed an mot since.
If a mot tester was really strict, then the old lights can just be temporarily re-fitted in place to 'legalise' it.

I fitted OEM Xenons and simply removed the electric levelling unit on the headlamps and replaced it with my existing manual vacuum operated levelling unit.:)

You don't need to and I would expect on an SLK there wont be too much variance in vehicle attitude (not like on my estate), but if you want a clear conscience wrt on-coming drivers get the levellers fitted. Not horrendeously expensive and Ollie has had a bit of practise fitting them ;) :thumb:

Washers and levellers are a requirement only on factory fitted lights. Aftermarket/retro-fit only requires the correct type approved lighting unit (i.e. designed for xenon bulbs) is fitted.

Mine does not have washers and passed it's MOT at MB without comment

Not sure that's possible on the 203 lights as everything in built inside the light unit?
