Hi everyone & Happy Healthy New Year.

Several years ago my wife & I owned a pre-facelift SLK R171, to which I retrofitted power folding mirrors, this was motivated by the narrow clearance on our garage door.
I managed to obtain a pair of mirrors with the power folding motors, bought a centre console switch with the fold button from Ebay, everything was a simple plug & play & worked with no problem once the coding for auto fold was enabled.

We liked that old SLK so much, when we recently decided to change our car, my wife chose another SLK R171, this time we went for the later facelift model & quickly realised the door mirrors were quite a bit larger than the earlier model & didn't power fold.

No problem, thought I. I'll simply repeat the retrofit process on our new car & managed to source replacement mirrors & a new switch. Returned to the MB specialist who coded the old car, to do the required coding.

No problem with the coding, I can now select or de-select auto fold / unfold on locking or unlocking. My problem is the mirrors just will not fold, I've followed the procedure exactly for the facelift car that I did on the pre-facelift car, tested the mirrors by connecting then directly to the battery & they work ok. Obtained another switch, just incase the 1st switch was faulty, but still nothing.

If anyone has successfully completed this retrofit & can tell me if there is anything else I need to do that I didn't need to do on the earlier car, or if I need additional components, I would be very grateful. Incidentally, the door control modules & switch are the same parts on both pre & post facelift cars.

Thank you, in anticipation.....

What did you get coded, and with which code? I retrofitted folding door mirrors to my W204 years ago, and the first attempt gave the same result that you have. Turned out that the door modules needed the option code for dimming mirrors rather than, or as well as, the option code for folding mirrors.

The folding and dimming mirrors were only available as a combined package option so I guess no-one at the factory noticed or cared that the functionality didn't quite match the option code.

Hi FiveAlive, thanks for your reply, Not sure what exactly was coded, but I now have the option in the centre of the clock pinnacle to activate or deactivate folding on locking. The technician did mention something about the door modules because he checked they were the same for both pre & post facelift cars, you do make an interesting point about mirror dimming though, the wires appears to be part of the same connector block, so they may need enabling & was not present on the non power folding mirrors I've just replaced...

Hi BfgSLKMan, Thanks for the advise. Comand uk, you say. are they an authorised Mercedes Dealership or an independent & have you any contact detailswe (comand

We (comand ) are an independent. We do a load of work for Mercedes dealers aswell as private individuals.

We can code it all properly for you. The dimming is a red herring. You dont need that option necessarily to have the folding working. The presence of the option in the instrument cluster is not sufficient to get it all working.

Send me your vin number to [email protected] and ill give you a quote to sort it out.
