I hope I'm posting in the right department but can anyone shed any light on an issue with my SLK's folding roof? (53 reg. 200)

When I operate switch to open roof, the windows and quarterlights go down, boot lid tilts, then it all stops! I can still hear the motor running but no further action. (next thing should be that main roof panel disengages from top of front windshield to fold rearwards) If I then push the switch forwards, the process reverses ok from that point.

I can re-try and it will stop at the same point but sometimes, if I rev the engine, the roof will disengage successfully and the process continues to run through to completion.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Get it open and thoroughly grease the attachment point. Worked for me.

Sticky 1998 SLK roof

Im having an identical problem except it stops up, down, halfway seemingly at a whim.

I have had the hydraulics replenished with no joy.

Could you be more precise? For a technical duffer which attachment points exactly?

Many thanks
Mike

On my SLK the roof tended to stick as the hooks that attach to the top of the w/screen did not disengage. They would if I gave the roof a thump where the hooks are. A good greasing cured this.

You may have a broken wire in the hinges.

Grease up the mechanism first.

If no joy then it needs a Star.
