My SLK350 will be 2 years old in October, and covered about 10k miles, Last service a A service in September last year.

The service display said B service due in 6000, miles a couple of weeks ago, then suddenly changed to C Service due in 23 days. The MB suggests it ought to be a B, so I'm a bit confused...

What is the difference between a B and a C, and which should I listen to - the OBC or the service schedule. Or just leave it to the dealer to sort out (I have a vague suspicion that will be the expensive option...)

Also, what would be the effect of leaving the service a couple of weeks beyond the OBC date, but within the schedule date?

Thanks,
Confused of Cumbria:)

Hello Colin.

There's no problem leaving the actual date of the service up to 28 days beyond what the OBC is asking for, after that they would have the opportunity to wriggle out of any warranty work, (this requirement is buried deep inside the warranty/service book).

From memory, the C service will include a brake fluid change which is a requirement at two years, four years, six years etc. The B (always includes oil) would have been the A (always includes oil) plus some odds and ends like polen and other filters. The actual, non mandatory, tasks in addition to oil and brake fluid will only become apparent once they plug it into the diagnostics socket then it will list what the individual car itself wants/needs.

Hope that helps? Should be around £300 (Bradford prices I might add;))

Portzy.

Easiest way to determine the work schedule required without asking a dealer is to use the Mercedes Electronic Service Sheet. I don't really understand why, but the ESS gives different answers for an R171 SLK350 depending upon whether it has a Sport Pack or not :dk:

The MB website service calculator, differs from the OBC which confused me:)

However the collective wisdom of the replies (thanks both) reassures me that I'm not going bonkers! The OBC might be though, it had gone from service in 26 days to 23 today....
