Car
Black R172SLK
Evening folks
I.m tempted to get a slk MK1 for the summer. What year was it facelifted.I think a 230 would be fine.were the early ones all kompessor.and where do i look for rust?? I,ve seen a few around the 4K mark.

They were facelifted in 2000, look for the indicators in the wing mirrors as a sign of this.
I bought a 230k a few days ago, a 2001 model and really love it.
Try to avoid anything that hasn't been looked after as if these cars are well cared for they seem to last really well.
Some rust around the rear wheel arches but those taken care of seem to be free of this problem(at least the ones I have seen)
Get a mechanic(unless you know your stuff of course) to check out your potential car carefully before making a decision - I looked at 4 SLK's before buying mine and took 3 months to find the right one for me.
Good Luck.

I have a '98 230K that I've had for over a year. Great car. The interior does not stand up to much abuse and is therefore a good indicator of how the car has been treated, bear this in mind when viewing.

I think you'll be lucky to get a good example at £4k(ish) at that price some have fallen into dubious ownership! doesn't hurt to try tho'.

When looking on ebay etc check out how many switches are in front of the gearshift, the more there are the better the spec, max is six, min is two.
Check back arches, boot lock area and boot at number plate lights as these are the typical rust areas. Personally I would avoid cars with cheap rims, the originals are prone to corrosion and are often replaced with cack rather than refurbing.

Get a good one and you will be well chuffed, 25mpg day to day, and 35 on a run can't be bad either.

SLK Switches

(When looking on ebay etc check out how many switches are in front of the gearshift, the more there are the better the spec, max is six, min is two.)

Does this one have all the goodies EG heated seats ??

Sorry for bad piccy but waiting for a better one.

Heated seats generally tend to be the two outer switches, so yes, it looks like it does.

Also, is that Designo leather? (Two colour leather seats). Think that was quite a costly option when new.

Maybe someone can expand on it?

My Dad had a SLK230 when they were launched for 7/8 years and only changed it for a SL

It was a great car. His only needed tyres / servicing in the time he had it and 70K miles. Including several long trips to Europe.

Don't think at the time two tone seats were extra? over and above leather but cannot be sure. He had Black outside with read / black inside. Heated seats were an option. Auto / cruise was standard on the early models. Sunglass holder was option. Bose sound system, AMG wheels, Amg full body kit, roof rack prep.

Regularly did 30mpg

Great cars just make sure everything works, especially the roof, no signs of water in the boot. If its a light colour interior they can wear so negotiate.

Hi the most important extra (imho) is the heated seats, and like the other poster said, it is the two outside switches of the six that are for those. The copper one is a fair looking car at £4k but the colour is not to everyones taste and could be difficult to move on come sale time.

AFAIK the two tone seats and trim was extra over and above leather spec, the centre consol is easily scratched but you can buy paint from viponds.au that is a good match to remedy any damage. Watch out for red/black interiors and blue/black, as these are a bit of an aquired taste too! Mine is sand/quartz or dark grey/cream to you and me!

The switches go l to r , heated seat left, headlight washers, traction control over ride, door lock on/off, anti tow alarm over ride, heated seat right.

If you get the vin no you can use this website to find out the full original spec of any mercedes.

At a push i could just swap out the seats and door cards,as it hasnt got an orange dashboard.i could,t live with that:wallbash:

Could you live with this one:) or  not.
AFIK its a good spec but at 112k a money pit maybee but is in my price bracket
Opions please

Has that drivers door been painted?? and does it look rusty on the wheel arches to you.I suppose rust will blend in well.

i like that one - had a yellowstone early one and loved it!! ***interesting Fact*** the spice girls all had one of the copper one's - god im such a queen:D

I like it ...

Black leather with the body coloured leather seat inserts works well ... see my gallery ...

It's unusual , which has a lot going for it , so many black and silver ones about.

JMO, but is a 200k enough? the 200k i had in my c class coupe would really move in a little slk....and with the roof down you wont be flooringit everywhere anyway...

Its a 230K Rich ....

Gotta love the designo interior ... ;)

Red one

Evening folks

I,ve gone off the orange one as i think it looks a bit dated with the old sideshirts and bumpers.

I came across this one though.

Year 2000 'W' reg' 230 Kompressor....85K..... 3 owners

Opinions please...colour/price.
Cheers
