Hi, I am new to MB cars what does kompressor mean as i have seen SLk200 and SLK200 kompressor advertised for sale,

No it isnt - a supercharger is driven by the engine - a turbo is not...

It's just how the ad. is worded - all SLK200s have a supercharger (kompressor in German). It's only a 1.8 engine, and wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding otherwise

Not wanting to nit-pick (where on earth did that expression come from anyway???) but isnt the correct name for a 'turbo' actually turbo-supercharger, in that it is a supercharger but driven by a gas turbine rather than mechanically.

Not that it actually makes any material difference....

Supercharger is belt driven from the crankshaft.

Turbo is exhaust gas driven.

Both force air in to the engine which= more POWER!

The full name for a turbo is Turbocharger.

Yup that's quite correct. Shortened to turbocharger, and thence to turbo.

The basic difference is that a mechanically driven supercharger consumes some engine power, and a turbo doesn't.

Usually, but could be any kind of mechanical drive. Believe they were often gear-driven in the past.

Is that the inside of an SLK?

Just to muddy the waters, I think you can get electrically driven superchargers too! That would be an indirect load on the engine, via the alternator.
